Matthew Ryan Historical Illustrator

Matthew has always had an interest in drawing and painting since he was a small child. He has been inspired by the works of John Howe and Alan Lee. He was also inspired by the Illustrations of Knights by Julek Heller.

Matthew studied for his H. N. D. in Visual Communications and also for a degree in Illustration. He worked for 11 years as a sign writer/advertiser, but his passion lay in art and history, especially the Medieval Period. So, he combined his two passions together, to become what he is today, a Historical Illustrator.

His favorite materials to work with are oil paint, this allows him to get a lot  of detail in his work, and pencil, because he enjoys the simple nature of that medium. To see more of his detailed work follow  his link,
